Wang Yi, Foreign Minister of China, stressed on Monday that the top priority is to achieve an immediate ceasefire, praising the continued calls by Gulf countries for dialogue and diplomatic solutions.
His remarks came during a telephone conversation with his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah of Kuwait.
During the call, the Kuwaiti minister briefed the Chinese side on the latest regional developments, noting that although Kuwait is not a direct party to the conflict, it has been affected by the ongoing war.
He reiterated that Gulf states remain committed to resolving disputes through dialogue and negotiations, while also maintaining their legitimate right to self-defense, Xinhua reports.
Al-Sabah also expressed Kuwait’s appreciation for China’s position and diplomatic efforts, affirming Kuwait’s readiness to enhance communication and coordination with Beijing to help restore security and stability in the region as quickly as possible.
He added that Kuwait places great importance on the safety of Chinese nationals and institutions operating in the country and will continue to ensure their protection.
For his part, Wang emphasized that China has consistently advocated resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means, describing the current fighting as a conflict that should not have occurred and that serves no one’s interests.
He also stated that military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran without authorization from the United Nations constitute a violation of international law, particularly as negotiations between Washington and Tehran were still underway.
At the same time, Wang stressed that the sovereignty, security, unity, and territorial integrity of Gulf countries must be fully respected, and that attacks targeting civilians or non-military facilities must be condemned.
He praised the Gulf states for continuing to advocate dialogue and confirmed that China will keep working toward a peaceful resolution.
Wang also revealed that the Chinese government’s special envoy for Middle East affairs has already departed for the region to help mediate and will maintain close contact with Kuwait and other regional countries.
The Chinese minister concluded by expressing confidence that Kuwait would continue ensuring the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel in the country.
