In a notable display of diplomacy and solidarity among Central American nations, Kuwait hosted a remarkable celebration organized by the embassies of Nicaragua, Honduras, and El Salvador to mark the 204th anniversary of their independence.

The ceremony, held in a grand hall, began with the playing of the Kuwaiti national anthem, followed by the national anthems of the three countries—a symbolic gesture reflecting the strong ties between these nations and their appreciation of Kuwait as the host.

Attendees included Assistant Foreign Minister for American Affairs Nawaf Al-Ahmad, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Al-Meshaal, as well as ambassadors, diplomats, and representatives from international organizations.

At the start of the event, H.E. Mohamed Farara Lachter, Nicaragua’s Ambassador to Kuwait, praised Kuwait, stating, “The Kuwaiti leadership has set an honorable example of sound diplomacy and political wisdom, making Kuwait a beacon of humanitarian work, coexistence, and a steadfast supporter of peace and justice.”

Ambassador Lachter emphasized that the independence of the Central American countries was not merely a historical event but a defining moment for the freedom and self-determination of their peoples. He noted that Nicaragua remains committed to promoting peace, sustainable development, and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations.

H.E. Francisco José Herrera Alvarado, the Honduran Ambassador to Kuwait, highlighted key milestones in bilateral relations, stating, “Diplomatic relations between Honduras and Kuwait began in 1972, and our diplomatic mission was established in 2014. However, we recognized Kuwaiti sovereignty in 1960 and stood by it during its most difficult moments in 1990-1991.” He also recalled a presidential visit from Honduras to Kuwait 14 years ago and expressed hope to repeat it in 2026. Ambassador Herrera emphasized that Independence Day serves as an opportunity to strengthen ties with allies and friends worldwide.

H.E. Juan Carlos Staben Boillat, El Salvador’s Ambassador to Kuwait, expressed his country’s appreciation for Kuwait, saying, “Kuwait, internationally recognized for promoting peace, is a valuable partner with whom El Salvador seeks to deepen relations across various fields.”

The tripartite event featured an exhibition showcasing prominent products from the three countries. Beyond celebrating Independence Day, the occasion highlighted the depth of diplomatic ties with Kuwait and reinforced the sense of solidarity among the Central American nations, bringing them together in an atmosphere of pride, mutual appreciation, and shared aspirations.
