Cassation Court sets Sept 8 to look into case of Sheikh Talal in high-profile ‘embezzlement’ case

The Court of Cassation has set Sept 8 to look into the high-profile appeal filed former Minister Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, thus allowing more time for the completion of pleadings in a case involving serious charges of embezzlement and money laundering.

Sheikh Talal is challenging the verdict issued by the Ministerial Court in January 2025, which sentenced him to a total of 14 years in prison, ordered him to return nearly 10 million dinars, and imposed a fine of approximately 20 million dinars.

The charges stem from alleged financial misconduct involving funds from both the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior.

The appeal includes two separate cases.

The first case relates to the expenses of one ministry, Sheikh Talal was sentenced to seven years in prison, required to return 500,000 dinars, fined one million dinars, and was dismissed from his position.
The second, is concerning expenses of the other ministry, the sentence included seven years of hard labor, an order to return about 9 million dinars, a fine of approximately 19 million dinars, and the confiscation of implicated vehicles.

During a previous session, the court had ordered Sheikh Talal’s release with a travel ban, pending the final ruling.

The September hearing is expected to be decisive, as the Court of Cassation’s judgment will be final and cannot be appealed, marking a critical moment in one of Kuwait’s most closely watched corruption cases involving a senior former official.
