Capital Governorate launches first phase of greening project on Second Ring Road
Inspired by Kuwait Vision 2035 and the enduring words of the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah: 'Let Kuwait be one green country'

Capital Governor Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ali Al-Sabah has announced the launch of the first phase of the greening and beautification project along the Second Ring Road in the Shuwaikh residential area.
The initiative is part of a broader environmental and developmental agenda led by the Capital Governorate in collaboration with the Green Urban Development Initiatives Committee, chaired by Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Hamoud Al-Jaber, reports Al-Rai daily.
The announcement was made during a field inspection tour attended by several officials and representatives of participating entities. The project aims to improve air quality, reduce environmental pollution, and promote sustainability in urban areas.
Sheikh Abdullah described the initiative as the first of its kind along the Second Ring Road, noting that it marks a key step toward enhancing the overall quality of life in the capital.
“Through this initiative, we aim to foster a sustainable and healthy environment that aligns with the state’s development vision,” he said.
Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Hamoud Al-Jaber expressed his satisfaction with the progress made, praising the support of the residents of Shuwaikh and neighboring areas. He emphasized that this project serves as a launchpad for future greening initiatives to be implemented across various regions of Kuwait. He also called on individuals, companies, and institutions to support these projects through the committee’s official electronic platform.
Falah Al-Enezi, Acting Deputy Director of the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources for Landscape Affairs, reiterated the authority’s commitment to providing technical and logistical support to community-driven environmental initiatives. He praised the collaboration between government bodies and civil society, and affirmed the authority’s dedication to expanding Kuwait’s green spaces.
Engineer Haifa Al-Muhanna, the creator of the initiative, outlined the achievements of the project’s initial phase, which began in February to coincide with Kuwait’s national holidays.
The work spanned a period of three months and ten days, and included planting 245 palm trees out of a target of 310; developing a new irrigation infrastructure and replacing outdated soil; planting shrubs and ground cover suited to Kuwait’s climate and greening a stretch of 1,480 meters, covering two road sections and two roundabouts in the Shuwaikh area.
Al-Muhanna noted that the project is divided into seven phases stretching from coast to coast, with remaining sections scheduled for completion after the summer.
She also expressed her aspiration to involve both public and private sector partners in future greening initiatives, inspired by Kuwait Vision 2035 and the enduring words of the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah: “Let Kuwait be one green country.”
