Belgium Stun Senegal with Dramatic 3-2 Extra-Time Comeback

Full Time (AET): Belgium 3-2 Senegal

Belgium are through to the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 after an unforgettable comeback victory over Senegal in one of the tournament’s most dramatic matches. The Lions of Teranga looked to be cruising after first-half goals from Habib Diarra and Ismaïla Sarr put them 2-0 ahead.

But Belgium refused to surrender. Romelu Lukaku ignited the comeback in the 86th minute before Youri Tielemans levelled the match three minutes later to force extra time. Both sides came close to finding a winner during the additional 30 minutes, with Dodi Lukebakio striking the crossbar and Thibaut Courtois producing a vital save. In the dying moments, VAR intervened after Lamine Camara’s sliding challenge on Tielemans, and the referee pointed to the spot.

Tielemans kept his composure in the 120+5th minute, calmly converting the decisive penalty to seal an astonishing 3-2 victory and complete one of the greatest turnarounds of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
