H.E. Ulrich Frank, the designated Ambassador of Austria to Kuwait, commended the “fruitful and distinguished” diplomatic relations between the two nations. He emphasized Austria’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Kuwait across various sectors, as reported by Al Qabas newspaper.
This statement was made during a reception held in celebration of the Austrian National Day, attended by Mohamed Yacoub Hayat, Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Affairs, Minister Plenipotentiary, along with several diplomats.
He added that Austria is committed to multilateralism and the rule of law in international relations. Like Kuwait, Austria believes that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reflects a world order that has long since passed—specifically, the post-World War II international structure. Based on this shared perspective, Kuwait and Austria jointly chaired intergovernmental negotiations on equitable representation on the Security Council and the expansion of its membership.
“We are committed to making this council more effective and accountable, including our candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the 2026 elections,” he said. Furthermore, political consultations between our two ministries took place a few months ago.
Regarding the events in Gaza and Lebanon, Frank said, “It is regrettable that many regions continue to suffer from the ravages of war, terrorism, and all their catastrophic consequences.” He emphasized that Austria upholds international law to protect innocent civilians in Gaza and Lebanon, while noting that the issue of hostages remains critical.
The ambassador stressed the urgent need for de-escalation on all fronts, stating, “We must do everything in our power to end the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe, which requires an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, Lebanon, and all affected areas to allow humanitarian aid and, ultimately, the release of hostages, including the Austrian citizen.”
