Asian drug trafficker in police custody, shabu worth 1.5 million dinars seized during raid

The Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday the seizure of approximately 200 kilograms of the narcotic drug shabu, with an estimated street value exceeding 1.5 million dinars (around $4.8 million).

The drugs were found in the possession of an unidentified Asian who was allegedly planning to distribute them inside the country, according to Al-Rai daily.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations and Security Media Department of the Ministry of Interior, the operation was carried out under the directives of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and safeguard society from its harmful effects.

The Al-Rai daily said, the CID men received a tip-off from unidentified sources that the suspect was distributing narcotics following which anti-narcotics officers put the suspect under surveillance and after obtaining the necessary legal approvals, took the suspect into custody in the suburb of Al-Riqqa. A large quantity of shabu — estimated at 200 kilograms — was found in his possession.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect had rented two vehicles — one was used to distribute the drugs across various locations, while the other served as a mobile storage unit, hidden in a deserted area in Al-Riqqa.

The authorities also learned that the suspect was receiving instructions from individuals operating outside the country.

The Ministry emphasized that this seizure ranks among the largest in Kuwait’s history and confirmed that the suspect and the confiscated drugs have been referred to the General Department of Drugs Control.
