Cabinet condemns Iranian escalation, affirms Kuwait’s right to self-defense; demands Tehran halt ‘hostile acts’ after Bubiyan infiltration attempt

The Cabinet was informed that His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has assigned His Highness the Prime Minister to head Kuwait’s delegation to the European-Gulf Geopolitical and Investment Summit, scheduled to be held in Greece from May 14 to 17, 2026, as the Amir’s representative.

The Cabinet was also briefed on the telephone conversation between His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

During the call, Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s support for the State of Kuwait and its people, stressing her country’s backing for all measures aimed at preserving Kuwait’s sovereignty, security and stability.

The Prime Minister directed ministers to intensify field inspection tours of government service institutions to closely monitor the needs of citizens and residents visiting public agencies.

Ministers were urged to strengthen direct communication with the public and adopt an open-door approach that reinforces transparency, improves government performance and serves the public interest.

The Cabinet was further informed of the signing ceremony of contracts between three government entities and the Turkish global company Limak Holding to complete the final stages of the new passenger terminal project (T2) at Kuwait International Airport.

The move reflects the state’s commitment to continuing major development projects and accelerating completion of one of Kuwait’s most strategic infrastructure projects.

The Cabinet strongly condemned and denounced the infiltration of an armed group affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard into Bubiyan Island with the aim of carrying out hostile acts against the State of Kuwait, as well as their clash with Kuwaiti armed forces before being apprehended.

The Cabinet stressed Kuwait’s demand that Iran immediately and unconditionally cease its illegal hostile acts that threaten the security and stability of the region.

The Cabinet reaffirmed Kuwait’s longstanding commitment to the principles of good neighborliness and rejected the use of Kuwaiti territory or airspace to launch hostile acts against any country.

It further stressed that Iran bears full responsibility for these hostile acts, affirming Kuwait’s full and legitimate right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The Cabinet listened to a detailed briefing by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah regarding the confessions of four infiltrators arrested while attempting to enter Kuwaiti territory by sea to carry out hostile acts. The suspects admitted affiliation with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The Cabinet praised the efforts of Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, as well as all personnel in the security, military and civilian sectors.

The Council also heard a briefing from Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah regarding the latest regional and military developments amid what he described as Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait and GCC countries.

The minister reviewed measures taken by the Kuwaiti armed forces in monitoring hostile drones detected within Kuwaiti airspace and the procedures implemented to address them.

Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah also briefed the Cabinet on the political and diplomatic efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Kuwaiti diplomatic missions abroad to follow developments in the region.

The minister outlined the content of telephone conversations held over recent days with several foreign ministers from brotherly and friendly nations, in addition to his meeting with GCC Secretary-General Jassim Al-Budaiwi during his official visit to Kuwait.

The Cabinet also expressed strong condemnation of the attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates in recent days using ballistic missiles and drones, which reportedly resulted in several injuries.

It stressed that the continuation of such attacks represents a blatant violation of UAE sovereignty, a direct threat to its security and stability, and an unacceptable escalation that undermines efforts to promote regional security and stability.

The Cabinet additionally expressed solidarity with the Kingdom of Bahrain and support for measures taken by Bahraini authorities in uncovering an organization linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The Council praised the vigilance and efficiency of Bahraini security agencies in confronting plots targeting the kingdom’s security and stability.
