Algerian ambassador prioritizes resuming direct flights with Kuwait

H E Noureddine Meriem, Algerian ambassador, underscored the significance of food diplomacy, an informal approach, in bolstering bilateral relations, while noting Kuwaitis’ familiarity with Algeria.

In a statement to journalists on the sidelines of the opening of the first Algerian gastronomy event in Kuwait, the ambassador outlined several priorities on his agenda for the upcoming period. These priorities include further developing the robust relations between the two countries and enhancing their economic and commercial ties through high-level bilateral visits. He emphasized that one of the key objectives for the next stage was the resumption of direct flights, which will be pursued through dialogue, discussions with relevant authorities, and coordination between them.

He added that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries did not meet the high expectations relative to the capabilities available of the two brotherly nations. He expressed hope for increased returns in the near future, highlighting Kuwaiti investments in Algeria. Among these investments, perhaps the largest and most significant is in the banking sector through Gulf Bank in Algeria, which is affiliated with the Burgan Group and operates over 60 branches across various Algerian cities.

He revealed that there were approximately 2000 Algerians in Kuwait, who were qualified and skilled and significantly contributing to Kuwait’s development, further strengthening ties between the two friendly nations.

He emphasized that cultural exchange served as a crucial bridge of communication between peoples, fostering mutual understanding and advancing bilateral relations towards broader horizons.

He expressed his keenness to introduce Kuwaitis to the rich and diverse culture of Algeria, noting that the inaugural Algerian gastronomy event in Kuwait marked the first step in this endeavor. Additionally, he described it as an opportunity for Kuwait to partake in Algerian national holidays by sampling distinctive Algerian cuisine. He encouraged Kuwaitis and residents of Kuwait to visit Algeria and explore its rich and diverse ancient culture and heritage.
