Al-Yahya emphasizes the need for systematic plan to combat terrorism and extremism globally

Al-Yahya while addressing the fourth high-level conference on ‘Enhancing International Cooperation in Combating Terrorism and Building Flexible Mechanisms for Border Security - the Kuwait phase of the Dushanbe process’ highlighted Kuwait’s commitment in all international and regional efforts for combating terrorism and violent extremism.

Foreign Minister, Abdullah Al-Yahya, stressed the importance of developing an effective systematic plan to combat terrorism and extremism. Similarly, he emphasized about finding ways to address the root cause of this scourge, explaining the principled and firm position of the State of Kuwait, in rejecting all forms of terrorism and violent extremism.

Al-Yahya, also mentioned about Kuwait’s support in international efforts and relevant UN resolutions to reduce this scourge. More particularly, about the great efforts of the international community, that is in coalition against the so-called (ISIS) organization. And also, the effective role of this coalition in Iraq, Syria and the African continent meant to eliminate terrorism and extremist radicalism.

In his speech during the ministerial session within the work of the fourth high-level conference on ‘Enhancing International Cooperation in Combating Terrorism and Building Flexible Mechanisms for Border Security – the Kuwait phase of the Dushanbe process’ today, Al-Yahya said that the role of the State of Kuwait has become clear and explicit, especially in combating terrorism, through its chairmanship of the group to prevent the flow of foreign terrorist fighters that emanate from the international coalition to combat (ISIS).

This coalition is done in partnership with Turkey and the Netherlands, and the effective cooperation that Kuwait is performing in cooperation with the friendly, United States of America, in securing and facilitating the transfer of the families of foreign terrorist fighters present in the Syrian and Iraqi camps, and handing them over to their countries with ease and smoothly.

Al-Yahya added that the State of Kuwait appreciates all international and regional efforts made in the field of combating terrorism and violent extremism in its various aspects, despite the many challenges faced by the international community today.

Moreover, Al-Yahya said that terrorism today still poses a serious threat to the international community and does not target a specific group, religion or race. But rather goes beyond that; by spreading terror and panic among members of society and destabilizing international security and stability.

Minister Al-Yahya called on all friendly countries to reintegrate and rehabilitate their fighters from the camps to achieve more benefits and successes in the field of combating terrorism. He explained that the efforts made by the international community are not enough to eliminate terrorism and its threats, and it has become “incumbent upon us to increase regional and international cooperation and the participation of all member states in developing an effective systematic plan to combat terrorism and extremism” and to find ways to address the root causes of this scourge that has been renewed over the years.

Highlighting Kuwait’s role while concluding the conference, Foreign Minister, Abdullah Al-Yahya shared about the State of Kuwait’s aspiration that this conference will have positive and tangible results that will complete the series of successes achieved by the international community, in eliminating terrorism and extremism and uprooting them.

Al-Yahya expressed his deepest appreciation and gratitude to all the delegations participating in this extremely valuable and important meeting, which is aimed at enhancing cooperation in the field of combating terrorism, and building flexible mechanisms for border security.
