Al-Mukhaizeem reaffirms full support for Shagaya, Abdaliya projects in partnership with China

Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, reaffirmed the ministry’s unwavering commitment to advancing the third and fourth phases of the Shagaya and Abdaliya renewable energy projects, in close collaboration with leading Chinese companies in the field.
This affirmation came during a statement issued by the Minister on Monday, following a field visit to the Shagaya Renewable Energy Complex. He was accompanied by a high-level Chinese delegation led by the Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait, Zhang Jinwei, along with Li Baozhen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Electric Power Investment Group, and several company representatives, reports Al-Rai daily.
Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem emphasized that focusing on these projects aligns with Kuwait’s strategic vision to increase the share of renewable energy to 30% of the country’s total energy mix by 2030.
He noted that such efforts are crucial to strengthening national energy security and advancing sustainable development goals.
During the visit, the Chinese delegation was briefed on the technical aspects and components of the Shagaya project, which marks a significant step toward integrating renewable energy sources into Kuwait’s national grid.
The project currently has a production capacity of 70 megawatts and utilizes multiple technologies, including photovoltaic solar power, concentrated solar power (CSP), and wind turbines.
The visit was also attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Adel Al-Zamel, Acting Director General of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), Dr. Faisal Al-Humaidan, and several senior officials from both the Ministry and KISR.
