AI must align with human expertise, says Kuwait AI Society chairman at Doha summit

Sheikh Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Chairman of the Kuwait Artificial Intelligence Society, has emphasized the critical need to systematically integrate artificial intelligence (AI) with human expertise to produce deeper insights and align policies with societal priorities.

Speaking at a high-level session titled “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Smart Governance and Sustainable Development in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries” during the Our Legacy Summit in Doha, held under the patronage of Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al Missned, Sheikh Mohammad warned against the random and unregulated use of AI tools such as ChatGPT in the absence of structured integration, reports Al-Rai daily.

He stressed the importance of a policy development model that leverages large language models (LLMs) alongside human experts. Failure to do so, he cautioned, may lead to haphazard applications of AI, posing risks in governance and policymaking.

Sheikh Mohammad called for an organized response by governance bodies to ensure the safe and responsible use of language models, urging immediate steps to assess risks and implement effective mitigation mechanisms.

He highlighted a key opportunity in using AI to build sustainable economies in GCC countries by channeling oil and gas revenues into economic diversification, rather than relying on them as the economic backbone.

Additionally, he pointed to the value of AI in running long-term simulation models to evaluate proposed policies’ broad impacts—including social, economic, and geopolitical dimensions.
