Dr Fadel praises Kuwait role for advancing cancer awareness and training

Dr. Ebtehal Fadel, Chairperson of the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Alliance for Noncommunicable Diseases, praised Kuwait’s pioneering role in training medical personnel, highlighting a regional report that recognized Kuwait’s efforts in fulfilling a key Sustainable Development Goal—training healthcare workers to combat cancer.
This has been achieved through the ongoing work of the National Cancer Awareness Campaign (CAN), in partnership with the Ministry of Health, which has proven effective for over 12 years, according to Al-Rai daily.
At a recent training workshop organized by CAN, Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh, Chairman of its Board, announced the continuation of a cancer early diagnosis program targeting primary care physicians, dentists, and nursing staff.
The campaign focuses on training dentists in early detection of oral cancers and physicians in identifying early signs of breast, colon, rectal, head and neck, thyroid, and prostate tumors.
So far, the program has trained 1,617 dentists, 1,656 primary care physicians, and 2,843 nurses.
Dr. Al-Saleh emphasized that early detection by trained professionals allows quicker referrals, faster treatment, reduced patient suffering, and improved cancer recovery rates.
