ACI-Kuwait Chapter honors excellence at 2024 awards ceremony

• Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works received the award as the ‘Developer of the Project’.

• ‘Pace of Kuwait’ was recognized as the concept design and supervision consultants.

• Dr. Rana Al Fares was honored for her dedication to academic development and contribution to Kuwait’s built environment.

The Kuwait Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) held its Annual Awards function on Tuesday, 3rd December 2024, at the College of Engineering and Petroleum (South Campus), Kuwait University, Sabah Al Salem University City.

The Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Ministry of State for Housing Affairs, Eng. Abdullatif Hamed Al-Meshari, graced the event as the Chief Guest.

ACI-Kuwait Chapter is a non-profit professional organization affiliated with the American Concrete Institute International of the USA. Its objective is to develop and share technical knowledge to improve the quality of concrete and related construction practices in Kuwait through seminars, training courses, conferences, publications, webinars, and other informative activities.

During the well-attended grand event, ACI-Kuwait Chapter presented two prestigious annual awards: One for a Deserving Project; and the other to a Distinguished Individual for Lifelong Service to the Engineering Profession and Higher Education in Kuwait.

The event and various ceremonies were held in the magnificent auditorium of the College. Moreover, the Chapter’s Vice-President, read a message from the current President, Mr. Ghassan Alghawas.

Thereafter, Minister Abdullatif Hamad Al-Meshari delivered his address, emphasizing his and Kuwait Municipality’s commitment in supporting, regulating, and promoting the quality of design and construction in the country.

Al-Meshari’s address was followed by the award formalities, starting with the Award of Excellence 2023, which was presented to the New Maternity Hospital project.

Mr. Aziz Mamuji, Chairman of the Awards Committee, gave a presentation about the project, explaining that it was selected for being ‘an aesthetically pleasing and sustainably designed specialized medical facility that combines complex concrete engineering and structural design with state-of-the-art electro-mechanical systems’.

The Ministry of Public Works received the award as the ‘Developer of the Project’ with the trophy accepted on their behalf by the Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and Development, Eng. Ahmed Saad Al Saleh.

‘Pace of Kuwait’ was recognized as the concept design and supervision consultants, and the award was collected by Mr. Tarek Shuaib, CEO of Pace.

Impresa Pizzarotti, the General Contractor and Main Concrete Supplier, received the award on behalf of the company from Dr. Salvatore Lorenzano, the Company’s Representative, and Eng. Khaled Al Khezi of Group Four, their local sponsor in Kuwait.

Mr. Mamuji then announced the honoree for the Award of Achievement 2023, which was presented to Dr. Rana Al Fares.

Dr. Al Fares was honored for her ‘dedication and commitment to academic and professional development and contribution to enhancing the built environment in Kuwait’.

The ceremonies concluded with a dinner served in the main event hall of the College of Engineering and Petroleum (South Campus).
