The 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (Abu Dhabi 2026) commenced on Saturday with the participation of the State of Kuwait, represented by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, alongside ministers, officials, experts and representatives from numerous countries.
Kuwait’s delegation also includes Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice Awatif AlSanad, as well as several Kuwaiti officials and specialists in the legal, judicial and security fields. The conference is being held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) and will continue until October 1, with an expected participation of 3,000 to 5,000 delegates from more than 97 countries, in addition to ministers, senior officials, experts and specialists in crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law.
Held under the theme “Accelerating Action on Crime Prevention, Criminal Justice, and the Rule of Law: Protecting People and the Planet and Achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Digital Age,” the conference addresses organized and transnational crime, cybercrime, human trafficking, drug trafficking, money laundering and environmental crimes.
The discussions also cover the responsible use of artificial intelligence and modern technologies in criminal justice, strengthening international cooperation, and developing justice systems that keep pace with technological advances while upholding rights, privacy and transparency.
The program includes a high-level segment, plenary sessions, committees and specialized workshops, along with 15 high-level events, more than 200 in-person and virtual side events and an accompanying exhibition featuring 38 booths. A key expected outcome is the “Abu Dhabi Declaration,” which aims to set priorities and practical directions for crime prevention and criminal justice over the next five years, covering prevention, the rule of law, evolving criminal threats, innovation and international cooperation.
UN Congresses on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice have been held every five years since 1955 to exchange experiences, identify emerging trends and challenges, and promote international cooperation in crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law.
