Kuwait to hand over 21 new schools in Al Mutlaa before 2027-28 academic year

Kuwait is preparing to hand over 21 new schools in Al Mutlaa Residential City to the Ministry of Education as the government expands education infrastructure to support the area’s growing population and rising demand for school places. The Public Authority for Housing Welfare is coordinating the phased handover of the facilities, which comprise 10 kindergartens, five primary schools, four intermediate schools and two secondary schools for boys and girls.
The first phase is scheduled to begin on November 19, when six schools will be handed over. The group includes four kindergartens, one primary school and one intermediate school for boys. Completion rates at these facilities currently range between 81 and 98 percent. A second phase is scheduled for February 13, involving the handover of four additional schools, including two kindergartens and two secondary schools for boys and girls.
The remaining schools will be handed over in stages between April and August 2027, with the Housing Welfare Authority aiming to complete the transfer of all 21 facilities before the start of the 2027-2028 academic year. Following each handover, the Ministry of Education will undertake the necessary preparations to equip the schools and place them into service according to the educational requirements of Al Mutlaa and its projected student population.
The Education Ministry is already working on providing furniture and other requirements for the new facilities. The preparations are being aligned with population growth in Al Mutlaa and the expected student density, particularly as the transfer of residents to the area continues. The phased rollout is intended to ensure that the new schools are ready to accommodate students as residential occupancy increases, while allowing education authorities to align staffing, equipment and operational requirements with actual demand.
The addition of 21 schools represents a significant expansion of public education infrastructure in Al Mutlaa and forms part of the wider effort to provide essential services alongside the development of the new residential city.
