IWG begins 2026–2027 season with Danish-themed Meet-and-Greet

The International Women’s Group (IWG) opened its 2026–2027 season with a warm Danish-themed meet-and-greet at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The event commenced with an introduction by the master of ceremonies, Mrs. Rima Khalidi, wife of the Ambassador of the State of Palestine and Vice President of the IWG. This was followed by the introduction of the new board by Mrs. Marika Kochlamazashvili, wife of the Ambassador of the Republic of Georgia and Presidential Advisor to the IWG.
The newly elected President, Mrs. Mona Haddad El-Khoury, wife of the Ambassador of the Republic of Lebanon, expressed her gratitude for having been entrusted with this responsibility and emphasized the board’s dedication and commitment to supporting the group. She also thanked the Honorary President, Sheikha Hanouf Bader Al Sabah, for her continued support. Looking forward to a season of meaningful encounters and new friendships, Mrs. Haddad introduced the motto for the year: Discover, Connect, Empower

“Discover and experience more of Kuwait. Connect with one another. And empower each other.” The program continued with a journey through Denmark, The Land of Hygge, Happiness and History, prepared and presented by active IWG member Mrs. Elsie Qutteineh. The presentation showcased the Scandinavian country’s rich heritage, from its Viking roots and long-standing monarchy to its modern identity.
It also explored hygge, the Danish concept of warmth, comfort, simplicity, and togetherness, as well as family life, work-life balance, cycling culture, equality, and trust. As part of the event, the group recognized the host country, Kuwait, through two of its important national landmarks—the Kuwait Towers and the National Assembly Building. Their inclusion created a meaningful connection between Denmark and Kuwait.

Following a documentary about Denmark, Mrs. Leen Odeh, wife of the Ambassador of the United Kingdom and Vice President of the IWG, presented members with a lively quiz based on the film. IWG member Mrs. Patricia Alenezi then spoke about her passion for cycling in Kuwait and the cycling culture in Denmark. Using cycling as a metaphor for life, she said:
“The road isn’t always smooth. There can be wind, obstacles, and sometimes you need to slow down or change direction. But you keep pedaling.” Mrs. Alenezi expressed her hope that more people would discover the joy of being on two wheels in Kuwait. When she thinks of Denmark, she said, she thinks of the bicycle—something simple that connects people, places, and cultures: “Two countries, two wheels and one feeling.”
The event concluded with a raffle, and members are looking forward to a new season filled with friendship and cultural exchange. The IWG Board extends its sincere thanks to all partners for helping make this event a memorable one.
