Improving govt financial management is central to reform, says Finance Minister

Kuwait moves to strengthen integrity, transparency and governance in public finances

Finance Minister Dr Yaqoub Al-Rifai said improving the government’s financial management system and enhancing its efficiency and effectiveness are fundamental to the reform and development process.

He said the effort reflects the state’s continued commitment to promoting integrity, transparency and governance, ensuring the optimal use of public resources and protecting public funds.

Al-Rifai made the remarks on Sunday at the launch of a program to promote integrity, transparency and governance in the financial performance of government agencies at the headquarters of the Arab Planning Institute. The program is being implemented by the Financial Controllers Authority.

He said the authority plays a pivotal role in supporting the government’s financial management system through its supervisory and financial responsibilities, promoting compliance with legislation and regulations, and providing advice and guidance to government agencies.

These efforts, he added, would contribute to improving the quality of financial performance, enhancing the efficiency of state resource use and supporting reform and development initiatives.

Al-Rifai said the development program translates the government’s approach of continuously improving public-sector performance, investing in national competencies and keeping pace with developments in management and financial oversight.
He said the program is also aligned with the objectives of Kuwait Vision 2035 and its aspirations for a more efficient and effective government administration.

The minister stressed that the success of these efforts requires coordination and integration among state agencies and institutions and teamwork, noting that improving financial performance is a shared responsibility.

The objective, he said, is to enhance the efficiency of state institutions, protect their resources and support their development.
Al-Rifai also expressed his appreciation to Financial Controllers Authority President Nada Al-Sahli and the authority’s employees for their efforts in carrying out their national responsibilities.
