Kuwait and India discuss strengthening bilateral ties and regional developments
Kuwait and India have discussed ways to further strengthen and develop their longstanding bilateral relations across various fields, as senior officials from both countries reviewed regional and international developments during a meeting in Kuwait.
Kuwait’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan, received Asim R. Mahajan, Additional Secretary at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, on Tuesday, September 8, during Mahajan’s official visit to Kuwait.
According to a statement issued by Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting focused on bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and explored ways to strengthen and develop cooperation across various areas. The two officials also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments.
The meeting comes as Kuwait and India continue to maintain regular diplomatic engagement on issues of mutual interest. The two countries have been expanding their dialogue across political, economic and strategic areas, with high-level consultations providing an important mechanism for reviewing bilateral cooperation and developments in the wider region.
Mahajan has been closely associated with India’s Gulf and West Asia diplomatic engagement. In August 2025, he co-chaired the seventh round of India-Kuwait Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi, where the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and discussed areas for further cooperation.
The latest meeting in Kuwait also takes place against the backdrop of continuing developments across the Gulf and the wider Middle East. The exchange between the two senior officials provided an opportunity for Kuwait and India to share assessments of regional and international issues and to discuss matters of common interest.
Kuwait and India have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, supported by substantial people-to-people links and economic engagement. The large Indian community in Kuwait has also played an important role in strengthening the social and economic ties between the two countries.
The latest discussions underline the importance both sides attach to maintaining regular diplomatic consultations and strengthening cooperation at a time of significant regional and international developments.
