Pezeshkian says, ‘you cannot fight forever, war must end at some point’
. . . ‘best time’ for agreement through talks
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says the war must end at some point, and that his country is determined to adopt the memorandum of understanding as a basis, provided the US abandons the atmosphere of distrust it has created.
Pezeshkian added, current circumstances present a strong opportunity to resolve outstanding issues through negotiations, describing the present moment as the “best time” to reach an agreement.
Pezeshkian said Iran is holding daily discussions on diplomatic strategy as Tehran seeks to move away from the current state of “neither war nor peace.”
“Current conditions can constitute an opportunity to continue the path of reaching an agreement and settling issues through talks,” he said, stressing that Iran’s national cohesion, strength and unity provide favorable conditions for negotiations.
Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to using the existing memorandum of understanding as the basis for resolving the conflict, provided Washington changes its approach.
While describing the United States as untrustworthy, he said Tehran remains willing to pursue negotiations and address the underlying issues. However, he warned that Iran’s participation would depend on reciprocal progress.
“We will proceed in negotiations to the extent that the other party proceeds,” Pezeshkian said, adding that Iran would reject demands if there was no progress and would insist on the rights of the country and its people.
The Iranian president also acknowledged the economic and social pressures facing the country, saying his administration was working to prevent further hardship for the public amid difficulties across various sectors.
Pezeshkian stressed that a lasting solution could only be achieved through diplomacy rather than prolonged conflict. He said Iran wanted to move toward peace based on the terms of the memorandum, noting that “you cannot fight forever” and that every war must eventually come to an end.
