Egyptian gynecologist arrested for performing illegal abortions
- Police arrested the Egyptian gynecologist during a sting operation at his private clinic and later seized abortion pills and psychotropic tablets from his residence.
The Ministry of Interior has arrested an expatriate working as an obstetrician and gynecologist on charges of performing illegal abortions and selling abortion pills for financial gain.
The arrest came after the Criminal Security Sector, of the Criminal Investigation Department received intelligence reports that the doctor was performing abortions and selling abortion pills from his private clinic in exchange for cash and bank transfer payments.
The doctor was put under surveillance and was taken into custody after a sting operation in which an undercover agreement was made to purchase abortion pills. After obtaining the required legal authorization, officers arrested the suspect at his clinic.
A subsequent search of the doctor’s residence led to the seizure of 49 abortion pills and 115 psychotropic tablets. During questioning, the suspect allegedly admitted to the offences and confessed that he had smuggled the abortion medication into Kuwait through illegal channels.
The accused, along with the seized items, has been referred to the competent authorities for further legal action. The Ministry of Interior said the arrest forms part of its ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities and uphold the law.
