Innovative finance takes center stage as UNDP, AmCham Kuwait back Vision 2035

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Kuwait, in partnership with the American Business Council in Kuwait (AmCham Kuwait), has launched a dialogue with the private sector on innovative financing mechanisms aimed at supporting Kuwait’s economic diversification and long-term development goals.
The introductory session, titled “Corporate Thematic Bonds, Sukuk and Sustainability-Linked Financing,” brought together business leaders to explore how sustainable financing tools can strengthen competitiveness, attract long-term investment and contribute to the objectives of Kuwait Vision 2035.
Drawing on its global experience, UNDP highlighted how thematic bonds, sukuk and sustainability-linked financing have helped mobilize more than US$30 billion across over 40 countries, supporting governments, financial institutions and businesses in aligning investment with sustainable development priorities.
The session also served as a platform for participants to exchange perspectives on emerging market trends and the growing role of innovative financing in building resilient businesses and deeper domestic capital markets.
UNDP Resident Representative in Kuwait Emma Morley said that a stronger private sector translates into greater innovation, better employment opportunities and a more resilient economy, adding that preparing businesses for the future is an investment in Kuwait’s sustainable development.
Dr. Arezou Harraf, Chair of the Board of Directors of AmCham Kuwait, noted that sustainable finance is becoming an integral part of the global financial ecosystem and that introducing these financing concepts to Kuwait’s business community would encourage practical dialogue on supporting long-term growth while advancing the country’s broader economic transformation.
The initiative forms part of a wider collaboration between UNDP and AmCham Kuwait to promote sustainable investment, mobilize private capital, strengthen domestic capital markets and support Kuwait’s economic diversification agenda in line with Kuwait Vision 2035.
