Government denies social media rumors on election law amendments

Amer Al-Ajmi, Head of the Local Affairs Sector and official spokesman for the government, has refuted claims circulating on social media regarding the government’s alleged intention to amend the election law concerning citizenship matters.

In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Sunday, Al-Ajmi addressed recent speculations suggesting amendments to the electoral law aimed at depriving certain citizens of their right to participate in elections based on nationality criteria. He emphasized that such rumors only serve to destabilize the nation and sow division among its people, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Al-Ajmi urged citizens to reject such unfounded rumors and instead prioritize national unity and solidarity among the authentic Kuwaiti population. He stressed the importance of maintaining cohesion and unity, which are integral to Kuwait’s national fabric, and encouraged individuals to rely on information from official sources.

Furthermore, he invoked divine protection for Kuwait under the leadership of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, lauding him as the beacon of the nation’s progress and the guardian of its prosperity.
