MOI begins random drug testing to strengthen discipline within security ranks

The Ministry of Interior has launched the first phase of a random testing program to detect the use of narcotic and psychotropic substances among its personnel, as part of a broader strategy to reinforce discipline, accountability and professional conduct within the security services.
The initiative is being implemented by the Criminal Evidences Department and forms part of an institutional plan aimed at promoting integrity and ensuring that members of the security sector serve as role models in responsibility and adherence to the law, reports Al-Rai daily.

The initial phase targeted members of the Police Sports Federation, headed by Chairman of the Board Brigadier General Sheikh Mubarak Ali Yousef Al-Sabah.
He was joined by the federation’s deputy chairman, board members and all affiliated personnel, reflecting a clear message that the law is applied uniformly, without exception.

According to the ministry, the measure falls under the provisions of Law No. 159 of 2025 on combating drugs and psychotropic substances.
The approved implementation schedule covers multiple sectors within the Ministry of Interior and includes periodic and random testing linked to promotions, appointments, assumption of leadership roles and disciplinary investigations.
The ministry reaffirmed its determination to continue enforcing these measures with firmness and consistency, stressing that the objective is to enhance readiness, strengthen institutional discipline and ensure a secure and professional work environment free from harmful practices.
