KCST and InnoEnergy Masters+ sign landmark Memorandum of Understanding

. . . to strengthen academia and drive energy innovation in Kuwait

A high-level ceremony was held at Kuwait College of Science and Technology (KCST) to mark the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KCST and InnoEnergy Masters+, represented in the region by HUB2ENERGY.

This partnership will enable Kuwaiti students to access top European energy education and innovation ecosystems while strengthening ties between the European Union and Kuwait in the fields of education, research, and sustainable development.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from António Azevedo Campos, co-founder and CEO of HUB2ENERGY, who framed the MoU as a bridge between local talent and global innovation.

“We are not merely signing a document; we are building a strategic platform for human capital, innovation, and shared solutions,” Campos said. “Because in innovation, as in energy, there are no borders. Kuwait and Europe now stand together as one home for what’s next.”

Campos highlighted the significance of bringing Europe’s clean tech ecosystem to the Gulf, noting that the agreement opens doors to joint curriculum design, applied research, and capacity-building in areas such as hydrogen, CCUS, smart grids, nuclear and AI for energy.

Her Excellency Ambassador Anne Koistinen delivered the keynote address, celebrating the growing academic and diplomatic cooperation between Kuwait and the European Union.

“This MoU celebrates academic partnership and exchange of ideas which are central to EU–Kuwait relations,” Ambassador Koistinen said. “It represents a sustainable investment in Kuwait’s energy future by strengthening students’ skills and global exposure.”

She also emphasized the EU’s broader support for international academic mobility and research, saying, “Europe is home to a vast network of world-renowned universities. Through this program, students will gain a global perspective on the energy transition while benefiting from Europe’s diverse academic landscape.”

KCST President Dr. Khalid Al-Begain welcomed the agreement as a milestone in KCST’s growth as a regional hub for innovation.

“This partnership,” Dr. Al-Begain stated highlights KCST’s role in shaping the future of science and engineering in Kuwait. Through this collaboration, we are enabling our students not only to learn from global leaders but also to return with the skills needed to drive Kuwait’s own energy transformation.”

He expressed KCST’s deep commitment to embedding international excellence in the university’s academic programmes and to expanding strategic partnerships with global institutions.

Sebastian Frattina, representative of InnoEnergy Masters+, reiterated the program’s commitment to global collaboration and its excitement about expanding into the Gulf region.

“We are proud to welcome KCST into the InnoEnergy family,” said the spokesperson. “This partnership brings together the best of European clean energy education and the talent and vision of Kuwait’s upcoming leaders.”

The program, co-funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), offers dual master’s degrees across top European universities and has helped launch over 500 clean tech startups across Europe.

The MoU will not only enable Kuwaiti students to pursue a master’s degree at two European institutions in different countries, but it will also be a strategic platform to co-develop curricula, enable research collaboration, and connect students and professors to industrial ecosystems across both regions, he stated.
