FATF praises Kuwait’s proactive role in fighting financial crimes

Kuwait’s Ambassador to India, Meshaal Al-Shamali, held discussions with Diwakar Nath Mishra, Chairman of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and Additional Joint Secretary at the Indian Ministry of Finance, on strengthening bilateral cooperation in combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

In a statement, Ambassador Al-Shamali emphasized that the State of Kuwait has implemented a series of corrective measures, aimed at reforming institutional laws and regulations on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing, ensuring full compliance with international standards.

He emphasized Kuwait’s commitment, through its Financial Intelligence Unit, to supporting global efforts in addressing challenges that threaten both national and international financial systems.

The ambassador also noted that Kuwait and India have signed a memorandum of understanding last July with the Indian Financial Intelligence Unit to enhance bilateral cooperation in the exchange of financial information, in accordance with international financial mechanisms.

The FATF Chairman commended Kuwait’s proactive approach and ongoing national initiatives to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, praising the country’s compliance with FATF standards and its collaborative efforts on the global stage.
