Strong global interest in Kuwait’s Khairan Power and Water Project

. . . as four consortia purchase tender documents

The Khairan Power and Water Distillation Plant – Phase 1 project is moving forward on schedule, with four international consortiums purchasing tender documents ahead of the mid-October bid submission deadline, the General Authority for Public-Private Partnerships (KAPP) announced.

According to informed sources quoted by Al-Rai, the participation of four out of five prequalified consortiums underscores global investors’ confidence in Kuwait’s commitment to implementing major infrastructure projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) framework. They noted that the recent signing of the Al-Zour North Power Plant Phases 2 and 3 contracts in August further bolstered investor trust in Kuwait’s PPP program.

Commenting on the bidding timeline, the sources said no decision has been made yet on whether to extend the submission deadline or maintain the announced date. They emphasized that KAPP remains committed to executing development projects on schedule, particularly those related to electricity generation and water production, which are critical to supporting the nation’s growing urban expansion.

The Khairan Power and Water Project – Phase 1 is expected to generate 1,800 megawatts of electricity and produce 30,000 imperial gallons of desalinated water per day, making it one of Kuwait’s key strategic projects aimed at strengthening national power and water infrastructure to meet future demand.
