Kuwait reaffirms commitment to disability rights in high-level committee meeting

Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, and Chairperson of the National Committee for the Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities,

Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, chaired the committee’s second meeting, where key issues related to advancing disability rights in Kuwait were discussed.

In a press statement on Wednesday, Al-Huwailah said the meeting began with a visual presentation on the importance of early intervention for developmental disabilities, along with proposals to establish specialized nurseries tailored to the needs of persons with disabilities, reports Al-Rai daily.

The goal, she emphasized, is to enhance quality of life and promote full societal integration.

The committee also reviewed progress reports from member organizations on the implementation of the international convention’s provisions, discussed recent developments, identified ongoing challenges, and explored solutions for the near future.

Reaffirming Kuwait’s full commitment to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the committee pledged to continue strengthening national policies and services aimed at ensuring the highest standards of care and inclusion.

These efforts, Al-Huwailah noted, reflect Kuwait’s leadership in humanitarian advocacy and support for vulnerable communities.
