IMWA Kuwait hosts 30th AGM, highlights growth and community impact

The Indian Muslim Welfare Association (IMWA), Kuwait, held its 30th Annual General Body Meeting (AGBM) on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Rajdhani Palace Restaurant in Khaitan. The event was attended by office bearers, executive council members, and general members, marking three decades of service to the Indian Muslim community in Kuwait.

The meeting commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Mr. Mohammed Kaleem Ansari, followed by a Presidential Address delivered by Mr. Syed Hanif Ahmad. Reflecting on IMWA’s 30-year journey, Mr. Ahmad highlighted the association’s ongoing commitment to community development, education, and family welfare.

He noted a record-breaking turnout of students from various Indian schools in Kuwait at the annual Quran Competition, calling it a milestone in IMWA’s history. Another key achievement was the launch of a Family Counselling program, held at the Indian Community School in Khaitan. The initiative, aimed at strengthening family ties and community bonds, is set to become an annual event.

Mr. Ahmad also emphasized the vital role played by IMWA’s newly formed Ladies Wing and Youth Wing, which have helped uncover and nurture talent among women and young members. These groups now actively support the planning and execution of IMWA’s major events. He proudly announced that IMWA is now officially registered with Kuwait’s Ministry of Awqaf.

“IMWA is not just an organization,” he concluded, “it is a family united by faith, service, and a shared mission to uplift the Indian community in Kuwait. Our journey continues, driven by sincerity, unity, and purpose.”

Vice President Mr. Muzammil Malik delivered a motivational address, commending the executive team for their dedication and successful event execution. He expressed hope for continued progress and growth in the coming years.

General Secretary Mr. Firdaus Allam Khan presented the minutes of the 29th AGBM (held on August 30, 2024), which were unanimously approved. He also shared the Annual Report for 2024–25, summarizing major activities, outreach programs, community engagement efforts, and the challenges faced and overcome during the year.

Treasurer Mr. Mohammed Asif presented the audited financial statement for the period January to December 2024. He detailed the opening and closing balances, total income, and expenditure, which were all approved after discussion. He reported a significant increase in membership over the year and thanked patrons and supporters for their ongoing contributions.

The meeting also featured a by-election to fill three Executive Council vacancies due to resignations. In line with IMWA’s bylaws, Mr. Mahboob Ahmed, Mr. Mohammed Khaleel Khan, and Mr. Asim Kidwai were unanimously elected to the council.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from members, including Mr. Jawed Anwar, Mr. Irfan Mohammad Khan, Mr. Kareem Irfan (President of FIMA), and others, who contributed ideas for IMWA’s continued growth and impact.

The evening concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mr. Israr Ahmed, a prayer (Dua) for the community’s well-being, and a dinner that offered an opportunity for fellowship and informal networking.
