At least 68 migrants have been confirmed dead after a boat capsized off the coast of Yemen, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) told Agence France-Presse (AFP) today.
Dozens more remain missing as rescue efforts continue.
Abdul Sattar Issaouif, head of the IOM mission in Yemen, said: “The death toll currently stands at 68 people on board the boat, but only 12 of the 157 have been rescued so far. The fate of the missing is still unknown.”
An earlier estimate from security sources had reported 27 dead, but the confirmed number has since risen significantly.
