Housing projects in South Sabah Al-Ahmad show marked progress

. . . amid soil challenges and calls for transparency

The Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) is advancing steadily in the execution of housing projects in South Sabah Al-Ahmad Residential City, with recent reports indicating notable improvements in completion rates, particularly during June.

The PAHW confirmed that actual progress in several infrastructure contracts has exceeded the contractual expectations, a development welcomed by prospective homeowners and citizen committees alike.

In a recent update, PAHW revealed that the actual completion rate of the main roads contract in the city reached 54.37%, compared to the contractual rate of 49.66%. Similarly, for the first infrastructure contract, which covers 7,623 housing plots, the actual completion rate stood at 10.69%, outpacing the contractual rate of 9.91%.

Further progress was recorded in the second infrastructure contract (covering 6,189 plots), where actual completion surged to 19.22%, doubling the contractual figure of 9.20%. The third infrastructure contract, encompassing 6,568 plots, also showed a jump to 6.69% from a contractual 3.34%.

However, despite these achievements, the city continues to face challenges, especially concerning groundwater infiltration, particularly in Suburb N11. PAHW has enlisted a specialized firm to reassess and treat the soil using modern techniques prior to the continuation of infrastructure works.

Speaking to Al-Rai, Ali Al-Abdullah, head of the volunteer committee for residents, acknowledged the visible acceleration in project execution, particularly in the main roads and third infrastructure contracts that include suburbs N4, N6, and N8. He commended the collaboration between executing companies and PAHW in boosting completion rates.

Al-Abdullah called on the Authority to publish a clear, suburb-specific timetable detailing expected infrastructure delivery dates. Such transparency, he noted, would aid residents in making informed decisions about construction.

He also emphasized the importance of clarifying the gap between contractual and actual completion rates, warning that the absence of technical explanations could lead to confusion or misinterpretation.

On the groundwater issue, he reiterated that soil treatment is the responsibility of PAHW and the contractors, stressing the urgency of resolving this to ensure safe and efficient infrastructure work. He urged the Authority to intensify efforts on all three infrastructure contracts and adhere to delivery timelines so citizens can plan their future homes with clarity and confidence.
