Dubai police bust gang that sold drug-laced sweets via social media

During a press conference at the anti-drug awareness exhibition in Festival City, Brigadier Abdulrahman Al Maamari, Director of the International Protection Centre at Dubai Police, has announced the arrest of a gang promoting and selling narcotic-laced sweets through social media platforms.
The operation followed intensive surveillance by the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, culminating in a successful sting against the traffickers.
Al Maamari described the case as a “qualitative achievement”, reinforcing Dubai Police’s track record in crime prevention and community safety.
He also warned the public — especially the young and their parents — against buying sweets or products online that may appear harmless but could contain banned narcotic substances, legal in some countries but prohibited under UAE law.
He emphasized the importance of vigilance to protect public health and reiterated the critical role of awareness campaigns in preventing drug-related harm in society.
