Met predicts severe dust storms, scorching heat across Kuwait starting Tuesday

Director of the Meteorology Department, Dharar Al-Ali, has warned that Kuwait will experience severe weather conditions starting Tuesday and lasting until Friday afternoon.

The forecast predicts hot, dry, and occasionally strong northwesterly winds, which are expected to stir up widespread dust storms and reduce visibility significantly, particularly in open and desert areas.

Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Ali said that weather charts and numerical models show the country will be affected by an extension of the Indian monsoon depression. This system brings with it a hot, dry air mass and active winds with speeds ranging between 20 and 60 kilometers per hour, according to Al-Anba daily.

“These conditions will reduce horizontal visibility to under 1,000 meters in some regions, especially along open roads,” he said. “They will also cause sea waves to rise to more than six feet.”

The general weather outlook is expected to be very hot and dusty conditions during the daytime and hot to warm nights. Dust levels are expected to gradually decline in the evening hours.

Al-Ali stated that maximum daytime temperatures will range between 47°C and 49°C, while nighttime lows will hover between 31°C and 34°C.

He advised motorists, particularly those driving on highways, to exercise caution due to the risk of sudden drops in visibility. Beachgoers were also warned of hazardous sea conditions caused by high waves.

Al-Ali further urged individuals suffering from asthma or allergies to wear protective masks when outdoors to avoid respiratory discomfort due to airborne dust.
