Kuwait launches advanced 5G technology, sets stage for 6G transition

The Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) has announced the launch of advanced fifth-generation (5G) technology in Kuwait, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s digital transformation journey and laying the groundwork for future sixth-generation (6G) advancements.

Acting Chairman of CITRA, Sheikh Athbi Jaber Al-Sabah, described the move as a “qualitative leap” in the communications field. He noted that the advanced 5G network provides ultra-fast connection speeds of up to 3 gigabits per second and significantly reduces latency, enabling a wide range of innovative applications across sectors, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Sheikh Athbi emphasized CITRA’s commitment to developing a dynamic and responsive regulatory and legislative framework. In collaboration with telecommunications service providers, the authority aims to ensure that Kuwait’s market is fully prepared to integrate and benefit from this next-generation technology.

He added that the rollout of advanced 5G aligns with CITRA’s broader strategy to modernize the country’s digital infrastructure and maintain pace with international technological progress. This strategy is designed to elevate Kuwait’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.

By adopting advanced 5G early, Kuwait positions itself among the world’s pioneers in embracing cutting-edge communications technologies.

This initiative not only enhances the performance of the telecom sector but also accelerates the country’s digital transformation, fosters innovation, and supports the establishment of a knowledge-based economy.
The move underscores Kuwait’s ambition to become a regional digital hub, empowered by innovation and modern technology.
