Qatar summons Iranian envoy over Al Udeid Air Base attack

In a sharp diplomatic move, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Iranian Ambassador Ali Saleh Abadi on Tuesday to deliver an official protest against what it described as a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty and airspace, following the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ missile attack on the Al Udeid Air Base.

During the meeting, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan Al Muraikhi reiterated Qatar’s unequivocal condemnation of the attack, calling it a breach of international law and the United Nations Charter. Al Muraikhi stressed that Qatar reserves the right to respond in accordance with international law, underscoring the seriousness of the violation.

“This act is entirely inconsistent with the principles of good neighborliness and the historically close relations between Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Al Muraikhi told the ambassador. He emphasized that Qatar has long stood as a proponent of dialogue and has made considerable diplomatic efforts to maintain constructive engagement with Tehran.

The Qatari official further called on Iran to halt its military operations immediately and return to diplomatic dialogue as the only viable path to resolving disputes and safeguarding regional and international stability.

The summoning of the ambassador comes amid growing tensions following Iran’s retaliatory strikes across the region, including the Al Udeid base—home to U.S. and coalition forces. Qatar’s latest move reflects its insistence on protecting its sovereignty while pushing for de-escalation and renewed diplomacy in the region.
