Kuwait enters Al-Thuraya season marked by rising heat and dusty winds

The Al-Ajari Scientific Center has announced that Kuwait has entered a new seasonal phase known as “Al-Thuraya”, which began on June 7, 2025, and will last for 13 days. This period marks the onset of first wave of summer, characterized by rising temperatures and dust-laden winds.

According to the center, Al-Thuraya is associated with the appearance of the Pleiades star cluster in the eastern sky, which will remain visible until June 19. The Pleiades will then continue its journey across the sky and become a long-term presence, signaling the true start of the summer season in the region, reports Al-Jarida daily.

The center noted that during this time, the sun rises and sets from its northernmost point, while plants begin to dry, and dust storms become more frequent. It also pointed out that the Pleiades, often seen as a ‘cluster’, consist of seven prominent stars and have held cultural significance among Arabs for centuries.

This seasonal transition reflects traditional astronomical knowledge in the Arabian Peninsula, where star appearances have long guided weather expectations and agricultural practices.
