Kuwait, Switzerland hold 7th round of political consultations, sign MoU on development cooperation

The foreign ministries of the State of Kuwait and the Swiss Confederation convened the seventh round of political consultations in Bern on Friday, reaffirming the strength of bilateral relations and exploring new avenues for cooperation across various sectors.

In a statement, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that discussions focused on enhancing diplomatic, economic, and developmental ties, while also reviewing key regional and international developments.

The Kuwaiti delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, while the Swiss side was represented by Ambassador Monika Schmutz-Kirgöz, Assistant Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Head of the Middle East and North Africa Division at the Swiss Foreign Ministry.

A major outcome of the consultations was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for development cooperation between the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The MoU was signed by Ambassador Sheikh Jarrah on behalf of Kuwait, and by Didier Chassot, Assistant Director General of the SDC and Head of the Europe and Middle East Department, on behalf of Switzerland.

The agreement aims to enhance collaboration in supporting sustainable development efforts, particularly in regions of mutual interest, and underscores both countries’ commitment to addressing global challenges through multilateral cooperation.

The two sides expressed mutual satisfaction with the outcome of the talks and affirmed their commitment to continuing dialogue and expanding joint efforts in diplomacy, development, and humanitarian work.
