“Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research” achieves top rankings in SCImago’s classification

In its third edition (2024) released on Monday, 23rd December, the SCImago Foundation for Research Centers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA-Region), ranked the “Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR)” in second place in the Gulf and fourth in the Arab world. This marks a significant achievement, with KISR advancing by six places compared to its position in the second edition (2023) of the classification.

The classification was initiated by the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils, and 322 independent and affiliated research institutions and centers representing 22 Arab countries participated in its current version.

The classification includes three main axes, divided into weighted criteria and indicators as follows: research performance, innovation outputs, and societal impact.

  • 40 percent on scientific research outputs, including performance indicators, productivity, openness, and cooperation with other institutions.
  • 40 percent on innovation and technical impact.
  • 20 percent on community service, including the amount of information available on the organization’s website, the extent to which partners benefit from it, the social connections the organization serves, and its contribution to achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The SCImago classification of research centers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA-Region) is launched annually with the participation of the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Elsevier Foundation, a global leader in providing scientific and technical information through the Scopus database.

Moreover, the Scopus is a pioneer in offering scientific abstracts and research citations in peer-reviewed journals. The classification also involves the SCImago Group, which is well-established in providing analytical information and methodologies for forming and measuring scientific indicators.
