Kuwait and Japan seal strategic partnership on 63rd anniversary
The two countries will enhance their distinguished economic partnership, encompassing areas such as food security, cybersecurity, renewable energy, oil and petrochemicals, as well as health, culture, agriculture, science, and technology.
• Kuwait and Japan agreed to establish a strategic partnership and discussed regional and global issues, emphasizing coordination between their foreign ministries to enhance cooperation in international forums, especially the UN.
Kuwait and Japan convened the fourth round of political consultations at the assistant foreign ministers’ level, held at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various fields, as reported by Al Jarida newspaper.
The Kuwaiti delegation was led by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asia, Ambassador Samih Hayat, while the Japanese delegation was headed by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director General of the Middle East and Africa Department, Ambassador Toshihiro Ando.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized their aspiration to expand the distinguished economic partnership between the two countries, covering areas such as food security, cybersecurity, renewable energy, oil and petrochemicals, as well as health, cultural, agricultural, scientific, and technical sectors.
The two sides agreed in principle to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership, to be announced during a high-level visit between the two countries in the near future.
They also discussed regional and international issues of common interest, stressing the importance of enhancing coordination and consultation between their Ministries of Foreign Affairs to support cooperation in international forums, particularly at the United Nations.
The talks coincided with the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Japan. Both parties underscored the commitment of their leaderships to deepen bilateral ties rooted in mutual trust and credibility.
The meeting was attended on the Kuwaiti side by Sami Al-Zamanan, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Japan; Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asia, Minister Plenipotentiary Khaled Al-Yassin; and several officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Japanese side was represented by H. E. MukaiKenichiro, Japan’s Ambassador to Kuwait; the Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Middle East Affairs; and senior officials from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
