Kuwait a guiding beacon for those seeking hope and help

Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya stated that as an active United Nations member since 1963, the State of Kuwait is committed to joint international action and supports all efforts to achieve global prosperity and alleviate humanitarian suffering, embodying the spirit of the UN.

Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya stated that Kuwait’s contributions go beyond humanitarian aid, as the country champions civilian protection in armed conflicts and promotes preventive diplomacy, dialogue, and reconciliation to address the root causes of instability, thus playing a key role in advancing the United Nations agenda for peace and security.

Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya affirmed that Kuwait remains an active and reliable UN partner, supporting its main bodies to tackle global challenges and achieve shared goals.

 

Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya stated that Kuwait, as an active member of the United Nations (UN), plays a significant role in advancing the organizations agenda to uphold international peace and security, according to Al Rai newspaper.

This was stated in a speech delivered by minister Al-Yahya on the occasion of United Nations Day, celebrated by the United Nations Mission to the State of Kuwait under the theme “Sustaining Peace and Security.”

The event was held under his patronage and attended by Deputy Minister Ambassador Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, along with several officials and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the country.

He noted that the celebration of this day serves as an appropriate platform to reaffirm Kuwait’s support for the United Nations’ efforts to serve humanity, which is the cornerstone of multilateral international action. No other global organization possesses the legitimacy of the United Nations or the capacity to mobilize for collective action.

A guiding light

He added that this occasion provides an opportunity to renew the international community’s commitment to the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, which serves as the foundation for joint international action and a guiding light from which we can strengthen international cooperation to achieve our shared goal of maintaining peace and security.

He stressed that the State of Kuwait, as an active member of the United Nations, firmly believes in the importance of joint international action. Since joining the United Nations in 1963, Kuwait has been committed to supporting all efforts and activities undertaken and sponsored by the organization, particularly in the humanitarian and development fields, to achieve prosperity for the peoples of the world and alleviate the suffering of those affected by humanitarian crises. It has served as a beacon of hope and assistance for those in dire need, regardless of their religion, nationality, or background, thereby embodying the spirit and essence of the United Nations.

Kuwaits contributions extend beyond humanitarian relief

He explained that Kuwait’s contributions extend beyond humanitarian aid; the country has also championed the protection of civilians in armed conflicts and has promoted preventive diplomacy, prioritizing dialogue and reconciliation while addressing the root causes of instability. This commitment has enabled Kuwait to play a prominent role in advancing the United Nations agenda for a more peaceful and secure world.

Kuwait dedicated to preserve global peace and security

He reaffirmed Kuwait’s dedication to preserving international peace and security to alleviate the suffering of affected peoples and to promote sustainable development under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah KhaledAl-Hamad Al-Sabah, may God protect them.

The foreign minister stated that the State of Kuwait continues to be an active and reliable partner of the United Nations by providing support and strengthening its partnership with the organization’s main bodies to address common global challenges and achieve the noble goals we all seek. He emphasized that the partnership between the State of Kuwait and the United Nations is “a partnership for peace and prosperity for Kuwait, the region, and the entire world.”

UN’s role to strengthen global security, peace hailed

He praised the role of the organization and its contributions since its inception in 1945 to strengthen global security and stability and to establish the principles of joint action and cooperation for the elevation and prosperity of peoples. He stressed that the celebration’s slogan, “Sustaining Peace and Security,” is particularly relevant given the serious and unprecedented challenges the world faces regarding international peace and security. In a reality saturated with conflicts and tensions that threaten stability, the role of the United Nations in resolving conflicts, maintaining peace, and promoting dialogue has become more critical than ever.

He expressed pride and gratitude for the heroic and historic position of the United Nations and its various bodies in supporting the State of Kuwait to restore its sovereignty and freedom in 1991. This event stands as one of the most prominent examples of the United Nations’ role in protecting international peace and security and is considered one of the most reliable and successful experiences in this context.

He emphasized the State of Kuwait’s support for the efforts of the United Nations and its specialized agencies in achieving their charitable goals and objectives to serve the peoples of the world and fulfill their aspirations. He noted that the world today stands on the brink of a new era with challenges that “require us to renew our commitment to peace as a fundamental pillar upon which we build our collective prosperity and sustainable security.”

Kuwait a key partner of the UN in journey of peace and development

For her part, Ghada Al-Taher, the Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Resident Coordinator in the country, stated in a similar speech that Kuwait’s commitment, efforts, and belief in the importance of respecting international conventions have played a significant role in peace and security, making Kuwait an essential partner of the United Nations in the journey of peace and development.

Al-Taher expressed pride in the close cooperation with the Government of the State of Kuwait to achieve the sustainable development goals, which serve as a fundamental pillar for establishing sustainable peace. She noted that Kuwait has provided material support for development projects and humanitarian work for affected peoples during a long journey marked by a steadfast belief in the necessity of collaboration and joint efforts.

She stated that United Nations agencies are working in true partnership with the government and people of Kuwait in various areas, including economic diversification, youth empowerment, health, education, climate issues, human rights, governance, and more.

She explained that last year alone, “we witnessed remarkable cooperation in several areas, including support for governance and transparency, which helped Kuwait improve its ranking in the Corruption Perceptions Index,” as well as innovation in assistive technology for people with special needs. Efforts were also made on policies for childhood and elderly health, as well as strengthening economic policies and environmental projects, such as the Sandstorms Initiative and the afforestation campaign in Kuwait.

She added that the State of Kuwait currently ranks first in the Global Peace Index for 2024 in the Middle East and North Africa region and 25th globally, which is a significant achievement that underscores Kuwait’s deep responsibility as a leader of peace in the region.
