The Indian Muslim Association (IMA) Kuwait Ladies Wing held an impactful awareness program on September 28 at Al-Najat Typical School Auditorium in Mangaf.
The event, focused on addressing modern societal challenges like unchecked freedom, declining morality, and the dangers of excessive electronic device usage, drew a large crowd of families and children from across Kuwait.
Mr. Parvez Hanif, a renowned speaker, delivered an engaging talk titled “Morality is Freedom,” emphasizing that true freedom is achieved only when guided by moral values, allowing individuals to choose their beliefs, think independently, and express opinions freely.
He criticized Western concepts of freedom, describing them as modern-day slavery driven by market forces and capitalist lobbies promoting trends like live-in relationships and LGBT movements, which, he argued, undermine marriage and social values.
He called on individuals, society, and the state to uphold moral values, stressing the importance of religion and legal reforms in protecting women, children, and traditional institutions like marriage.
Dr. Susovanna Sujit Nair, a medical oncologist at Kuwait Cancer Control Center and the evening’s main speaker, then addressed the audience on the event’s topic, “Adverse Effects of Prolonged Use of Electronic Gadgets.”
In her presentation, she highlighted the growing health concerns linked to extended use of electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops, and their harmful effects on various parts of the body. She emphasized that excessive screen time can cause eye strain, dry eyes, and potential vision problems. Additionally, poor posture associated with device use often leads to neck, spine, back, and shoulder pain.
Dr. Nair further discussed the neurological and psychological impacts, including sleep disturbances and mental health risks such as increased anxiety, depression, and attention disorders, particularly in relation to constant connectivity, social media pressures, and reduced face-to-face interactions.
She concluded by encouraging balanced technology use, advocating for regular breaks, ergonomic practices, and mindful usage to mitigate these risks.
The event commenced with a recitation from the Quran by Master Mohammed Sulaiman Shareef, setting a thoughtful tone for the evening. It concluded with an interactive Q&A session with Dr. Susovanna, followed by a prize distribution to encourage audience participation. Sister Sameena Khan expressed her gratitude with a heartfelt vote of thanks. The event was well conducted by Br. Fayaz, who kept the audience engaged throughout.
A stall showcasing informative charts on Prophetic Medicine, prepared by the Sisters of the IMA Ladies Wing, was set up, along with a display of Islamic books.
