Caregivers’ benefits under review

According to sources, the package of benefits given to caregivers who look after the mentally and physically disabled is being reviewed. It is being studied to standardize it, to avoid the disabled from being exploited, and because caregiver’s fees are considered a large budget that could pose to be a drain to the system. Reorganization, control and limiting its disbursement to those who are genuinely entitled, for example, caregivers who look after severely disabled people, would help in the standardization.

Sources stated that currently the law granted the caregiver many financial and other benefits, especially considering the fact caregivers cannot leave the country for long periods of time. The review and control will facilitate upholding the rights of the disabled and provide a more streamlined approach for both the patient and the caregiver.
