Raid on food establishments

Inspectors from the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition conducted an inspection tour of food establishments in Hawalli Governorate, which resulted in the seizure of a quarter ton of adulterated meat of unknown origin that was being “thawed” and offered for sale as fresh, the closure of 4 food establishments, the issuance of 11 violation reports, and the destruction of adulterated food items.

In this context, the Director of the Hawalli Governorate Inspection Department at the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, Abdullah Al-Kandari, said that the violations varied between operating a food facility with an expired license, trading in adulterated food of unknown origin, workers trading in food without obtaining a health certificate from the competent authorities, the employer hiring workers without obtaining a health certificate, and thawing frozen meat or poultry and displaying it for sale as fresh, and all legal measures were taken regarding these violations, as per Al Anba.

Al-Kandari stressed that the inspection campaigns are ongoing around the clock to include all food stores, central markets, warehouses and food handling places with the aim of preserving the health of individuals, calling on everyone in the event of any complaint to contact the direct line 1807770 or through the Authority’s website to take action against expired food.
