MOCI disposes stock of pandemic disinfectants

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has begun disposing off the excess stock of materials it secured to meet the demand of sterilizers during the Corona pandemic.

According to an official document, the Ministry of Finance announced a public auction to sell 50.2 thousand barrels of ethanol, used in sterilization, in addition to 6.64 thousand kilograms of carbomer, a basic substance in the manufacture of sterilizing gel, in addition to plastic compressors.

Kuwait had sought, through a series of decisions in March 2020, to reconcile preventive requirements, including ethanol and its supplements such as carbomer and plastic compressors, with a budget of up to 6.4 million dinars to sell them to local factories to manufacture sterilizing materials.

A specialized regulatory report at the time indicated that the Kuwait Supply Company had contracted with several international companies to provide 60 thousand barrels of ethanol, 20 tons of carbomer and 10 million plastic compressors to increase the contingency stock of these materials in the event of the spread of the Corona virus.
