Health minister opens Farwaniya fertility unit, marking a major healthcare milestone

Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi affirms the Ministry of Health’s ongoing dedication to delivering outstanding healthcare services in Kuwait.

  • The Fertility and Assisted Reproduction Unit at Farwaniya Hospital is the third such facility in Kuwait, following the Fertility and Assisted Reproduction Units at the Maternity Hospital and Jahra Hospital.

  • The unit offers medical consultations for cases of delayed childbearing, conducts necessary tests to determine the causes, and treats them using modern techniques such as IVF and in vitro fertilization.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, the Minister of Health, described the opening of the Fertility and Assisted Reproduction Unit at Farwaniya Hospital as a significant milestone, affirming the ministry’s ongoing dedication to delivering outstanding healthcare services in Kuwait, Al Rai newspaper reported.

This was stated by minister Al-Awadhi in a press release following the opening of the unit on Wednesday. It is the third such facility in Kuwait, following the Fertility and Assisted Reproduction Units at the Maternity Hospital and Jahra Hospital.

He noted that this unit is a valuable addition to the healthcare system and represents a significant leap in service quality, as it will help reduce waiting times and is staffed by top consultants and specialists from national talents, providing services in line with international standards.

The fruit of hard work

Dr. Amal Khader, Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Departments Council and Head of the Obstetrics Department at Farwaniya Hospital, stated that the opening of the unit today is the result of the hard work of the ministry’s employees, including medical, nursing, and administrative staff.

Khader added that the unit offers medical consultations for cases of delayed childbearing, conducts necessary tests to determine the causes, and treats them using modern techniques such as IVF and in vitro fertilization, following current, approved scientific and international protocols.

She explained that the unit also provides treatment for male infertility cases in collaboration with urology consultants specializing in male infertility, and offers assistance in conceiving a genetically and hereditarily healthy child in cases of genetic diseases through IVF techniques and genetic screening tests.

She stated that the unit includes six medical consultation rooms equipped with the latest technology for fertility doctors, male urologists, and geneticists, as well as two rooms for artificial insemination, two rooms for semen collection, and an embryo culture laboratory outfitted with state-of-the-art medical equipment.

Dr. Amal Khader further explained that the unit is equipped with several advanced laboratories, including a lab for semen analysis and preparation, another for ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), and a genetic testing laboratory. Additionally, there are two fully equipped operating rooms with the latest medical devices, an egg retrieval device, a surgical microscope for treating male infertility cases, and two anesthesia rooms.
