• Raja Randhir Singh elected unopposed as President of the Asian Olympic Council.
• Dr. Thani Al-Kuwari and Dr. Norza Zakaria confirmed as Vice Presidents for West Asia and Southeast Asia respectively.
• Elections for other Vice President positions to be held in September in Delhi, India.
The Asian Olympic Council made an announcement on Monday, confirming the unopposed election of Raja Randhir Singh as its new President.
Singh, a nominee from the Indian Olympic Committee, secured the position following a decision by the council to disqualify the Mongolian committee’s candidate, Batushig Batbold.
The council’s decision to reject Batbold’s candidacy stemmed from his failure to meet the organization’s candidate regulations, which stipulate a minimum of eight years of experience within either the council or their respective national Olympic committee.
In addition to the presidential election, the council announced key appointments and nominations for vice presidential positions, reports Al-Rai newspaper.
Dr. Thani Al-Kuwari from the Qatari Olympic Committee has been appointed as Vice President for West Asia, while Dr. Norza Zakaria, President of the Malaysian Olympic Committee, will serve as Vice President for Southeast Asia.
The position of Vice President for South Asia has garnered two nominations: Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, and Maxwell de Silva, Secretary General of the Sri Lanka Olympic Committee.
For the Vice President role in East Asia, Timothy Fok from Hong Kong and Batushig Batbold from Mongolia are in contention.
The Central Asia region’s Vice President position will be contested between Otabek Umarov, Vice President of the Uzbekistan Olympic Committee, and Sadr Mamitov, President of the Kyrgyzstan Olympic Committee.
The elections for the aforementioned vice presidential positions are scheduled to take place in September in Delhi, India.
