MFI signs KD12.8 million Kuwait aviation deal for meteorology upgrade

A contract for the comprehensive enhancement of Kuwait’s Meteorological Department, a crucial component of the broader modernization effort for Kuwait City’s international airport complex was signed by Her Excellency Claire Le Flécher, the French Ambassador to Kuwait, and Mr. Patrick Benichou, President of Meteo France International (MFI).

The contract value worth KD 12.8 million was signed in the presence of Sheikh Humoud Mubarak Humoud Al-Sabah, President of Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The DGCA has engaged the services of the Dutch engineering firm DEERNS for this ambitious project. Representing MFI locally is SEEDIS, a division of MASPCO (Musaed Abdullah AlSayer & Partners Company) with over 30 years of experience in engineering and integration.

The project proposed by MFI in response to DGCA’s requirements includes implementing a comprehensive and integrated information system, from collecting and managing large volumes of data to disseminating warnings and meteorological information to the general public.

It also involves creating value-added products for Kuwait’s weather-sensitive economic sectors, including aviation and the oil & gas industry. Special emphasis will be placed on implementing advanced technological solutions in the areas of early warning and modeling, particularly sandstorms, a major local problem.

In addition to these cutting-edge technical solutions, and in line with its global and turnkey approach, MFI will also provide an ambitious capacity-building program for DGCA teams. The project includes over 130 weeks of training to ensure its effectiveness and sustainability. With the same concern for durability, DGCA has made the smart choice to plan a four-year technical support and maintenance period at the end of the two and a half years of completing the contract.

Thanks to this global strengthening project, DGCA is poised to significantly enhance its warning and service capacity, providing better protection for the Kuwaiti people and supporting the country’s major economic activities more effectively. This technological leap also positions DGCA as a leading player in the Middle East meteorological scene, further bolstering Kuwait’s influence in the region.

For MFI, this new project reinforces its status as a leader in modernization projects for National Hydrometeorological Services. It underscores the relevance of the company’s positioning and offerings in a world increasingly aware of the importance of efficient weather services amid global climate change and rising instances of extreme weather phenomena.
