Kuwait seals deal for energy purchase from Oman, Qatar

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy finalized a framework contract for electricity purchase with the GCC Interconnection Authority.

  • The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy called on citizens and residents to rationalize electricity and water consumption, especially during peak loads in the summer.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy signed a framework contract with the GCC Interconnection Authority to purchase energy from the Sultanate of Oman and Qatar.

A statement from the ministry indicated that the signing took place in the ministry’s building, in the presence of Acting Undersecretary Haitham Al-Ali.

Additionally, the Acting Undersecretary of the Customer Service Sector at the Ministry of Electricity, Falah Al-Mutairi, revealed that the debt of citizens in private housing is variable and changes daily due to ongoing collection efforts. He noted that this debt ranges between KD 125-130 million annually.

Al-Mutairi pointed out in a press statement that the ministry collected approximately KD 500 million during the last fiscal year, indicating that “the amount will increase year after year, thanks to the ministry harnessing several means to collect its debts.”

He noted that the ministry provides several facilities to citizens to pay their debts, such as installment plans for the amounts they owe after signing a debt declaration.

Al-Mutairi also mentioned that there is no shortage of workers in customer service offices, adding that customers do not need to visit the offices except when necessary, as 95 percent of the ministry’s services are currently available online.

He called on citizens and residents to rationalize electricity and water consumption, especially during peak loads in the summer, highlighting that rationalization benefits both parties: the customer, by reducing their bill, and the state.
