Badr Nashmi identifies five committees for every MP

The Parliamentary Committees Coordination Committee called upon MPs to express their preferences for membership in both permanent and temporary committees.

Right after the conclusion of the “MPs 2024” coordination meeting, the Parliamentary Committees Coordination Committee commenced its operations. It called upon MPs to express their preferences for membership in both permanent and temporary committees.

The committee coordinator, MP Badr Nashmi, started contacting MPs to coordinate and understand their preferences. He identified five committees for each MP, arranged based on their priority for membership. This means that each MP lists their top five preferences in order of importance, with the most important one listed first.

Nashmi explained to Al-Anbaa newspaper, “In our effort to ensure that MPs’ committee preferences are met, we’ve opted to understand each MP’s interests to facilitate smooth committee elections by acclamation.”

He elaborated, “I requested each MP to submit five committees they wish to join, prioritized by importance to them. This approach aligns with our goal of achieving parliamentary consensus, and decisions will be made based on recommendations.”

Nashmi highlighted that many MPs are interested in joining committees such as the Education, Budgets and Final Accounts, and Health and Social Affairs Committees. He noted that this extends beyond permanent committees to include temporary ones, and MPs will be asked to specify their preferences for ‘temporary’ committees without compromising ‘permanent’ powers.
