Jleeb owners of dilapidated buildings given two weeks to demolish

The Kuwait Municipality has given owners of and crumbling properties in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh a two-week deadline to begin demolishing the buildings, warning that the municipality will undertake the demolition if owners fail to respond within the specified period.

The municipality is completing procedures related to the properties by publishing their details in the Official Gazette. The two-week period will begin from the date of publication in Kuwait Alyawm, according to an informed municipal source. The technical inspection concluded that the dilapidated properties posed a danger to residents, passersby and neighboring properties.

The move follows a comprehensive security campaign in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh that identified illegal housing and prompted inspections of properties in the area. A Ministry of Public Works report covering 286 properties found that 263 were in danger of collapse, while four were newly built, one was under restoration, 16 were vacant plots and two were under construction.

The municipality has faced difficulties obtaining the details of some property owners in order to notify them of the inspection findings and the condition of their properties. Under the current procedures, owners who do not respond and begin demolition within the two-week deadline will see the municipality take over the demolition process.
